Special school welcomes maintenance of facilities

As part of Mandela Month initiative, MEC for Education, Mr. Ishmael Kgetjepe and Chief Executive Officer of The Mvula Trust, Mr. Silas Mbedzi have, on the 31 July 2018, led a team of personnel from both organisations to neaten facilities at Benedict and Hope Special School. The school is located at Ga-Molepo – few kilometres outside Polokwane in Limpopo.

The purpose of this gesture was to ensure that learners with special needs are sheltered in conducive facilities. Also to assess the needs of the school and mobilise stakeholders to collaborate with the department by distributing resources to the indigent schools across the Province. After officials addressed learners and community members, it was time to get to the business of the day. Staff members from The Mvula Trust and Limpopo Department of Education (LDoE) commenced with painting the walls, fixing pipes in the ablution facilities, cleaning facilities and resuscitating the school garden.

“There is nothing as fulfilling as contributing positively into the lives of other people. I feel excited about the change we made in this school”, said Mbedzi. The school was established in 2000 and it enrolls learners with special needs from six years of age. According to the needs assessment exercise conducted during the visit, officials conceded that the school lacks essential resources that are required to deliver effective learning.

The department and stakeholders committed to address challenges at Benedict and Hope Special School and pledged to return to the school with a comprehensive solution.
